Are the OwnGrown seeds from Germany?
We try to source as much seed as possible from Germany, but it depends very much on how the respective harvest year has gone, furthermore it depends on where the best growing conditions for the specific needs of the plants can be found.
For example, some of our varieties are from Italy (where there are more hours of sunshine) and from the Netherlands (where rainfall is higher).
Apart from this, all our seed varieties are tested, cleaned and packed in Germany.
What can I do when my seeds are not germinating?
We are very sorry to hear that you have problems growing your seeds. We can exclude that there is a problem with our seeds, as all our seeds are tested by independent institutes for germination and viability. Furthermore, they are also subject to constant state control. In addition, we use our own cultivation test areas.
Why it hasn't worked for you yet is difficult to tell without further information. Successful plant growth depends on many factors: Soil composition, temperatures, light and more. You cannot force natural seeds to grow if the environmental conditions are not optimal.
Thus, it may well happen that a variety does not germinate directly. The seeds in the packages are enough for many plants or several growing attempts. Make sure not to sow too many seeds at one spot, because there could not be enough space for germination.

How long is the storage life of the OwnGrown seeds?
With good storage conditions (at room temperature and dry) our seeds have no specific expiration date.
However, over time, the germination rate can decrease. You could still try growing the seeds later than the two or four years we recommend on the seed packets, depending on the variety. But please keep in mind, that it is just likely that fewer plants will sprout.
We only use seeds that are heirloom varieties, while other manufacturers often offer F1 hybrid varieties, which usually lose their germination capacity faster.
All our seeds are GMO-free and free from pesticides.
How many seeds are in one seed bag?
The number of seeds in our seed bags are quite different. You can find the exact number on each bag, as well as on the individual product pages here in the shop, directly under the botanical name of the plants.
