Cabbage Savoy - harvesting

Started cutting the Savoy Cabbage. The outer leaves are fed to the chickens or put on the compost heap leaving the heart at the centre - still a little small but big enough. These will now be cut over the next few months.

Garlic - planting

The start of another crop. After last year’s partial failure, only the early maturing garlic cloves from last year (these were successful) and different garlic of an unknown type were planted to see what happens with these. Plenty of compost and wood ash were dug into the soil a couple of weeks beforehand. Planting details are the same as last year so click on “Garlic” on the right to see all the posts for garlic over the past year.

The last tomatoes were picked at the beginning of October. Many are not fit to eat due to heavy rain and cooler temperatures so are thrown out along with the plants which are dug up and put on the compost heap.
