Courgettes - digging up

The courgettes stopped producing anything worthwhile in mid September so were dug up and put on the compost heap.

Broccoli and Calabrese - slugs

Slugs got at almost all the small, young Broccoli and Calabrese plants virtually destroying the lot so that is the end of those crops for this year!

Beans - French - picking

French BeansStart picking the French Beans at the start of August and these should continue until mid September. Pick them when young and fairly small - before they get bigger and tougher. One or two of those pictured here may be “over the top” and, if so, will be discarded when preparing.

Raspberries - cutting back

The early summer fruiting raspberries have now stopped producing so last year’s canes and the weaker ones from this year are cut back to ground level. Three or four canes from each station are left and these are the base for next year’s crop.
