Carrots - first sowing

First sowing of Carrots Chantenay Royal - seven 4′ rows 12″ apart and about 0.5″ deep. Sown very thinly to avoid having to thin later and we should end up with them 4″ to 6″ apart. Thinning carrots attracts carrot fly so avoid doing so. Make sure the ground is well prepared, deeply dug and as stone free as possible. There will be a further sowing later.

Carrots - resowing

All the carrots were destroyed by rabbits so the carrots were resown having blocked the holes in the border where i think they have entered. Although a little late for sowing, we should have some reasonable size carrots sometime in October.

Carrots - sow

Sow Carrots Topscore in Mid April very thinly about 0.5″ deep in rows 10″ wide. These will not be thinned to lessen the risk of Carrot Fly so must be sown very thinly and there will be a further sowing later to extend the cropping period
